Why did you create this product?
Based upon
the attendance and warm reception Dr. de Freitas has
had at her mother-daughter seminars, and the hundreds
of touching testimonials she has received over the
past 15 years, we understand that there is truly a
need for some mothers to have a little extra
assistance in this area. You would be surprised at
how many moms are nervous, embarrassed or were
raised to think this was a taboo subject in their
homes and do not want this to be the case for their
own daughters.
What age group is this product intended for?
My First
Period Kit & DVD is for girls ages 9-12 and is
intended to be viewed by them WITH their mother (or
father)/guardian.
Can a father also use
this with his daughter?
My First
Period Kit & DVD would definitely help a father
initiate the conversation, providing him with
accurate information on how to present these
details to his daughter. Just as a mother would do,
the DVD is to be watched by the father with his
daughter. (Remember, a 1-year subscription to
Healthy Chats is also included - so Dads can email
their questions, if should further ones arise.)
Will the information overwhelm my daughter?
The DVD
presentation does cover a wide array of topics but
is presented in a factual, yet easy-to-watch
manner. Watching with your child allows you the
ability to address her concerns, stop the DVD to
further discuss an area, and a chapter selection
menu enables you to review topics covered (or
refresh your own knowledge!) a later date. The
material is based on the "Healthy Chats for Girls"
seminars Dr. de Freitas has been presenting to
mothers and girls in this age category for 15 years.
Area any pads or
tampons included?
No. Because
these items are easily accessible to moms and
families, we do not add them. This also helps keep
the product and shipping price down as much as
possible.
What is the significance of the butterfly bag and bracelet?
Per our DVD
and Parent Guide, they should be among any token
items you might choose to give your daughter in a
little gift bag that might also include a calendar
to keep track of her period, some sample napkins, a
diary, etc. The butterfly bag like a cosmetic bag
or any other little pouch you might give her to put
her pads in, fits into a backpack or schoolbag. The
bracelet, to clarify, is NOT a declaration (of
getting one’s period), but rather a fun decoration.
The butterfly theme of both is to celebrate a girl a
blossoming into young woman – which we believe
should be conveyed as a happy, normal, healthy time
in her life.
How was
the presentation for your DVD shot?
Knowing that we would have real mothers and
daughters on our panel and in the audience, we were
especially conscious of their feelings discussing
such sensitive topics.
Fly-Up Media,
an exceptional women-owned multi-media video
production company put together an all-female crew
that actually appreciated the presentation as much
as the moms and girls! Many said they wished they
had something like this as a pre-teen. Additionally,
it was wonderful to see these filmmaking
professionals interacting with the girls (as well as
their moms), who felt quite comfortable in this
setting. From female directors to producers to
camera people to set designers to make up artists
and the many others who helped make our kit a
reality, the girls were able to see them as role
models as well.
